ROUTE
SAN FRANCISCO TO NEW YORK
The Morgans Over America organizers (Steve Roake, Elaine Fisher and I, Jeremy Harrison) contemplated doing Route 66 for MOA IV in 2005, but we decided against it since it didn't meet our criteria of keeping off Interstates and driving on as many scenic "Morgan" roads as possible.
Route 66 also seems to be commercialized, and a trip that one could easily do on ones own using the readily available literature. We understand many people want to drive on Route 66,
especially ME, so we are including some of the most interesting parts of it on our adventure.
We carefully plan each day to be certain that it meets our ideals.
We chose the name The Great Route, because we are covering
areas which have been described as Great....such as the Great Southwest,
the Great Plains, the Great Mississippi,
the Great Lakes, the Great
City, New York, etc.
We
try to ensure that each day is an adventure
for all participants. We are working with Morgan Clubs across America to
meet with them where ever possible on the trip.
We will ship the European cars into
San Francisco and ship back from Newark. We have
allowed three extra days at the start and end of the trip to collect the
cars from the shippers in San Francisco and to ship back from the Newark
docks.
